My name is Laurissa Schamm. I am a wife and mom of 2 children. My path to becoming a jewelry maker was not a straightforward one, and I doubt anyone who knows me, could have foreseen this happening. The need for a change in my life, together with moving to a new country, turned what started as a hobby, into a small business.

As a qualified doctor, I used to practice anaesthesia in South Africa. The commitments during my early years of my medical practice kept me away from my family  more often than I would have liked. In the past few years I have increasingly felt the desire to spend more time with my family, especially with the kids. 

When we decided as a family to emigrate from South Africa to New Zealand, I felt the time had arrived, to act on my wish to leave medicine behind, and become a 'stay at home' mom. My hobby and a love for using my hands creatively, led to Moi Noi.

I made my first earrings out of polymer clay and then added the use of Resin. I continue to learn, experiment and teach myself new methods as I go. Every piece I make, is unique and stays a piece of art to me. 

My passion for life, for being myself, and for capturing and conveying this unique beauty of that to others, gives me the inspiration to continue.

Currently I am blessed to be a stay at home mom and the creator of Moi Noi. As a family we are so fortunate to call New Zealand our new home, and are looking forward to what the future will bring.
